Food was unseasoned, old, burnt, soggy, and disappointing.

Miss Williams, I’m sorry you were disappointed with your order. If you didn’t enjoy the food, you’re welcome to bring the uneaten food back and I’ll refund your money. I can meet you at the restaurant within 10 minutes. I do want to clarify a few things for anyone reading this review. Your order was our first order of the day, so the greens and cornbread were made today, and the fryer oil was clean and fresh. Our fried potatoes are made with red-skinned potatoes, which naturally fry darker than other potatoes. Their darker appearance does not mean they were burnt. I’m not going to argue with you about whether you enjoyed the seasoning, flavor, or preparation—those are matters of personal taste, and I respect that you didn’t enjoy your meal. However, I do want to be clear that the food you received was not old. Again, bring the uneaten food back and I will gladly refund your money. I stand behind what we serve, and when a customer is genuinely unhappy, I’m willing to make it right.

Thank you for giving us a try and for your honest feedback. I’m truly sorry you left feeling unwelcome—that’s never the experience we want anyone to have. I’d genuinely like to learn more about what happened, as we truly enjoy our customers and strive to treat everyone with kindness and respect. If you’re willing, please give the restaurant a call and ask to speak with me on a Saturday. I’d appreciate the opportunity to hear more about your experience. Sincerely Talya
Disappointed with food quality, only shrimp was enjoyable

Soul food is subjective — everybody has their own idea of what it’s supposed to taste like based on where they’re from and what they grew up on. Sorry it didn’t hit for you this time, but we’re thankful for the people who continue to support us and enjoy our food at the new location. Our ratings have actually gone up, and we’re proud of that. Wishing you the best on your food journey. ❤️
Undercooked and overpriced food, poor customer service.

Thank you for your feedback—your opinion is important to us. Our prices reflect the real cost of staying in business while serving quality food. We understand that everyone has different tastes, and that’s okay. If your pie wasn’t fully cooked, we would have gladly replaced it or issued a refund at the time. Based on your experience, it may be best that we’re not the right fit for you. We wish you the best in finding a place that suits your taste. —The Comfort Zone Restaurant
Overpriced food, hidden fees, and lukewarm microwave reheated meal
Business reply on Google
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry your experience did not meet expectations. For clarity, your order was prepared to-go. While we make every effort to ensure food leaves our kitchen hot and properly packaged, we cannot guarantee temperature once it leaves the restaurant, especially depending on travel time. Our meatloaf is made from scratch and reheated to safe serving temperature before leaving the kitchen. It is never served cold or improperly prepared. Regarding pricing, beef costs have risen significantly, and we have worked hard not to increase our menu prices despite those increases. Our sweet potato pies are homemade and prepared in-house. Pricing reflects ingredient quality, labor, and portion size. We do not add hidden fees. Taxes and any processing charges are itemized. If there is any concern about the receipt total, we welcome a direct conversation so we can review it together. We appreciate you giving us a try and are glad you enjoyed the mac and cheese. — The Comfort Zone Restaurant
Food was bland and lacked seasoning

Respectfully, If your palate leans heavily toward salt, the Pacific Northwest may not align with your dining preferences. As a Southern-style soul food restaurant, we are intentional and respectful of the community we serve. In an effort not to contribute to health concerns such as high blood pressure and diabetes, we are mindful about reducing excess salt and alerting customers to added sugars while still honoring traditional flavors. Salt can always be added, but it can’t be taken away. A one-star rating feels unnecessarily harsh, but we respect that everyone has different tastes. Happy Holidays !
Restaurant out of food, no seating, smells bad, and unfriendly staff.

When you have a personal problem with staff it is really unfair to take it out on the buisness.
Long wait for food, forgotten order, and poor service.

In your review, you noted that our business is small with limited seating. Because of this, we handle a high volume of takeout and delivery orders in addition to serving our dine-in customers. While we prioritize the experience of our dine-in guests, we also work closely with delivery drivers ( other local business owners.)Making drivers wait directly impacts their income, so we strive to balance fairness for everyone involved. My manager spoke with you directly and offered an apology. Since you dined in, you personally observed the high number of orders coming in that day. No concerns were raised about the red beans during your visit, and my staff assumed everything was fine. You and your companion ate your meals, and the little girl with you chose to take hers to go, which they understood to mean she wasn’t ready to eat at that time, so receiving her food slightly later than the rest of the meals wasn’t perceived as a big issue. We value your feedback and are always working to improve the experience for all of our customers. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Food was not what the customer expected

Thank you for acknowledging the atmosphere/ service. While I understand that the food may not have met your personal expectations, I can assure you that everything we serve is made fresh and with care. Soul food can vary greatly from family to family or region to region, I realize it might not have been what you were expecting. However, lowering my rating without giving me a chance to address your issue feels unfair. We have a large menu, and I’m confident I could have found something else you would have enjoyed. I strive to make every guest’s experience a great one, and I wish you had spoken with me directly so we could have made it right.
Long wait and small, bland portion of food

Dear Bonnie McKinney, Our 33rd St. location is designed primarily for takeout, with limited seating. As a result, we also serve through Uber Eats, DoorDash, GrubHub, and EZ Cater, so the lobby doesn’t always reflect the number of customers we’re serving. Additionally, with the temporary closure of our Esquire location, our staffing has been impacted. I’m sorry to hear that your shrimp and grits didn’t meet your expectations. We use high-quality colossal shrimp (13/15) and always strive to provide a great dining experience. With our diverse menu, we understand that everyone has different tastes, and perhaps another dish might suit your preferences better. I’d be happy to discuss your experience further. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly, and I’ll do my best to make things right. Sincerely, Talya
Food tasted like fish, had hair, and was oily.

As a small business owner, my goal is to welcome constructive criticism from customers to continually enhance and improve our services. Let me start by saying, While we acknowledge that satisfaction varies, it's regrettable you find our food unappealing. It always saddens me personally that I can’t please everybody! Let's address the concerns I actually have control over at this point. As you know , Things like Parking & lobby size are not something I can readily change. The Comfort Zone restaurant: both locations have earned an "Excellent " Health Department Rating for close to a Decade ! - [ ] We've never mixed chicken and fish in the same fryer, batter, or oil, and we accommodate identified food allergies. - [ ] Our kitchen staff, including the cashier, feature bald hairstyles or wear Locs and Braids. Thank you for your review! Our menu is large. If you come back you can try another dinner on the menu my treat! Just respond to this review dialogue. If not … we wish you the best and hope you discover a soul food restaurant in the greater Seattle area that aligns better with your taste preferences
