Gym fails to disclose restricted hours for day pass holders

Here comes smart answer… We take all of our reviews seriously and reviewed our door access footage from this morning to ensure there were no issues on our end. Based on the footage, it does not appear that you were at the door at the time of your purchase. The individuals you mentioned were able to enter after purchasing their day passes and following the posted access steps. Since your drop-in was purchased at 6:46 AM this morning, it will remain valid until 6:45 AM tomorrow and is still available for you to use. Big Tex Gym is a true 24/7 facility. Day pass users can access the gym at any time by following the clearly printed instructions on the front door. There is also a 24/7 phone number listed for immediate assistance. Our call log shows only one call at 5:28 AM, and we did not receive a call from you. For clarity, there were only four day passes purchased during the timeframe you described. We encourage making sure details are accurate before posting claims that may misrepresent the situation. To keep things simple: 1 Did you read and follow all posted steps for drop-in access? No 2 When you couldn’t access via Bluetooth, did you call the 24/7 number on the door? No 3 Did yo
gym requires payment of past due balance to cancel membership

We get it, life gets busy. But forgetting you signed up for something doesn’t make it free. You agreed to a membership, didn’t cancel, and now want to blame us for honoring the agreement you made. We don’t babysit adults, and we’re already more lenient than 99% of gyms, only 14 days’ notice to cancel instead of 30. Fourteen days. That’s all. And for anyone who knows they might forget, we even offer paid in full options. You didn’t choose that either. You chose month to month, forgot, and now we’re somehow the bad guys? This isn’t about fairness, it’s about accountability. Responsibility isn’t optional just because it’s inconvenient. Rob, Owner...

We want to first say that we take all feedback seriously and we’re sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations. Our goal is always to create a welcoming, respectful environment for everyone who walks through our doors. After reviewing the security footage from September 8th at 5:00pm, we want to clarify what took place. When you and your friend arrived, Sophie was already assisting another member. She greeted you with a smile, and within three minutes, provided you with waivers so you could begin a tour while she finished helping the guest ahead of you. At 5:12pm, you and your friend were still touring the gym. The camera shows you walked past the front desk while there were no other customers around, at that time Sophie would have been able to assist you with any questions you had. When you returned around 5:15pm, other guests were already ahead of you again. By 5:22pm, Sophie finished assisting the other members and then engaged in full conversation with you and your friend, answering your questions and explaining again that the sign-up process could be completed by scanning the QR code. The entire time you were in the facility, you spent about 10 minutes actually waiting at t

Thanks for your feedback. We welcome all reviews, though sometimes, they say more about the reviewer than the gym. Big Tex is a no-frills, old-school training facility. That’s made clear before anyone signs up: no classes, no fluff, just serious equipment and serious training. If something squeaks, it’s because it gets used. A lot. With a lot of weights. As for your cancellation, our policy is explained clearly, verbally and in writing, with multiple initials and signatures. Canceling on your billing date doesn’t bypass the 14-day notice, and filing a chargeback after agreeing to the terms is unfair to any small businesses. We could’ve charged the $75 chargeback fee outlined in the contract, but we let it go, even after you were rude to staff. On the missing keys: lockers are provided, signs remind members to use them, and nothing was reported during your time here (2/23–4/1/25). Our members regularly return lost wallets, AirPods, even cash, we have a strong community, but we’re not here to babysit belongings. We work hard to give great service and keep this place running as a small, family-owned gym, with the cheapest day pass in town, maybe even in all of Texas. We stand by our p
The gym has increased membership pricing to an unreasonable level.

Oh no — we’ve been exposed! A small, family-owned gym trying to survive by (gasp) charging fair prices for world-class equipment and an awesome community. We do apologize that $10 for a day pass was too ‘goofy’ to handle — that is about what Planet Fitness charges for a month… if your goal is pizza parties and purple lights. We’re not that. We never claimed to be. We’re a gym for people who actually want to lift and train — not for people looking for the cheapest way to say they “went to the gym” this week. But hey — good luck finding a more serious gym at a better price. When you can’t, we’ll be here. Stronger than ever.

Hey Ghost, thanks for your honest review! You’re right—Big Tex Gym’s equipment is carefully selected, and some of it is a bit older or even discontinued. The piece you mentioned has been out of production for years, and the parts have been on backorder since last summer. But hey, this is actually why people love our equipment—it's built to last and has that old-school feel that you just can't find in newer machines. We’re doing everything we can to get it fixed as soon as possible, but we totally understand if the wait is frustrating. We appreciate your feedback!
Staff unprofessionalism and lack of cleanliness at the gym

Hey, thanks for the feedback! We’re glad you liked the equipment and access. As for Mike, he actually hasn’t been a trainer with us for over five years, so we apologize for that experience. We’ve been working on improvements in cleanliness and professionalism, and we’d love for you to come back and check it out. Hope to see you soon, and thanks for considering giving us another shot!
Gym charges excessive fees and prevents contract cancellation upon relocation.

Hi Andrew, thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand the frustration, but when members sign up, the pricing and cancellation policy are clearly explained, including the requirement for 14 days' notice. It's members' responsibility to make sure they cancel ahead of the time. Our rates are actually very competitive for a locally owned gym in the area, and we work hard to provide great value for our members. We genuinely appreciate your input and will continue to strive for transparency and fairness. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out—we're always here to help!
