The food quality and quantity were poor for the price.

Hi Homa, We take every review seriously, which is why we investigated your feedback using our order records. According to our records, Order #C5894931, placed through DoorDash Marketplace for delivery at approximately 4:28 PM on June 24, 2026, consisted of only 2 Gulab Jamuns and 1 Cardamom Almond Bliss beverage. No curry bowls, entrées, or freshly prepared meals were ordered. Because of that, we respectfully but strongly disagree with statements regarding the "quality and quantity" of our food. The items you ordered are prepared using standardized recipes and served in pre-portioned containers to ensure consistency from order to order. Their portion sizes do not vary between customers. We also note that this order was placed using a 50% promotional discount through DoorDash Marketplace. Guests looking for the best overall value are always encouraged to order directly from our website or visit us in person, where they receive our standard menu pricing and avoid many of the additional third-party platform charges and fees. Our restaurant has earned the trust of thousands of customers by focusing on fresh food, consistency, speed, and value. Our signature Double Curry Bowl, priced at

Thank you for your feedback. We take every review seriously, but we would like to clarify a few points for accuracy. The bread you are referring to is our Malabar Parota (Parotta), a traditional South Indian flaky layered bread that is intentionally made with butter and oil to achieve its signature texture and taste. For guests who prefer a lighter bread option, we also offer naan and garlic naan, and our team is always happy to explain the differences before ordering. Regarding the rice, chana masala, and overall food quality, our concept has always been "Taste Before You Buy." We actively encourage guests to sample our curries and menu items before placing an order. If you were not offered samples during your visit, we would genuinely like to know, as that does not align with our service standards. We can review the details of your visit and address any gaps with our team. We are proud to be one of Charlotte's most highly reviewed Indian restaurants, serving authentic slow-cooked curries in a fast-casual format without compromising on quality. Thousands of guests choose us because of our consistency, freshness, and value. For example, our Double Curry Bowl includes two curries an
The butter chicken quality was poor and unsatisfactory.

Hi Christian, We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. However, we do have to respectfully disagree with the characterization of our food. Our Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan are among our most popular dishes and are enjoyed by thousands of guests every year. In fact, they are two of our best-selling menu items and are often recommended to first-time guests. While we understand that taste is subjective and everyone has different preferences, feedback like "worst Indian food I've ever had" is certainly not representative of the experience that most of our guests have with us. That being said, we genuinely want to understand what happened during your visit. If there was an issue with your meal on that particular day, we'd like the opportunity to investigate it thoroughly. If you could give us a call and provide the approximate date, time, and items ordered, we can review our kitchen procedures and service records from that visit to better understand what may have gone wrong. We stand behind the quality, freshness, and authenticity of our food, but we also believe every guest deserves a great experience. We'd love the opportunity to welcome you back. Ple

Hi Joshua, thank you for sharing this with us. We’re truly sorry that you felt unnoticed at the counter — that is not the welcoming experience we want anyone to have at Kolapasi Indian Canteen. We take customer experience very seriously, and based on the feedback we usually receive, our service has never fallen short in this way. This is the first time we’re hearing about an experience like this, so we are treating it seriously and will review what may have happened with our team. It may have been a miscommunication or an unintentional miss during a busy moment, but we completely understand how it made you feel. We would sincerely love the opportunity to welcome you back, make it right, and give you the warm service and flavorful food experience we’re known for. Please ask for a manager when you visit, and we’ll personally take care of you and your first meal is on us. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. - Team Kolapasi Charlotte
Poor food quality caused physical discomfort and stomach irritation.

Thank you for your feedback. We take every review seriously, even when we strongly disagree with the assessment. We want to be very clear—our focus has always been on quality, freshness, and consistency, not just quantity. Every item we serve is made fresh in-house with high-quality ingredients—never frozen, never compromised. That is the standard we stand by. Regarding pricing, our Double Curry Bowl at $13.99—which includes two curries with rice or bread—is well below the typical $15–$20 range you’ll find at most Indian restaurants in the U.S. We are confident that what we offer is not only competitively priced, but also delivers strong value for the quality provided. We also offer a “taste before you buy” experience—something that is extremely rare in Indian restaurants here—so guests can make informed choices before ordering. This is part of our commitment to transparency and customer satisfaction. That said, we understand that expectations can vary, especially when comparing dining experiences across different countries and formats. Our concept is a fast-casual model built around quality-first dining, and it may not align with everyone’s personal preferences—particularly if the

Dear LaDiamond Bowdry, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re really sorry to hear that your recent experience did not meet the standards you’ve come to expect from Kolapasi. It’s especially disappointing to learn that the butter chicken was cold and lacked flavor, and that the parotta did not match the quality you’ve experienced during your previous visits. This is certainly not the experience we want our guests to have. We truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we will share your feedback with our team to ensure we improve. We value your continued support and hope you’ll give us another opportunity to provide you with the great experience you’re used to at Kolapasi
Poor food quality, small portions, and intrusive staff behavior.

We want to clarify a few facts for anyone reading this. Our concept is taste before you buy. Every guest is encouraged to sample the food first, and there is zero obligation to purchase anything if it doesn’t meet their expectations. If you chose to proceed with an order after tasting, that decision was entirely yours. We do not “boast” — we transparently explain our cooking methods, ingredients, and portioning. Oil levels, spice levels, and preparation styles are consistent with traditional Indian cooking, and samples are provided precisely so guests can decide whether it suits their preferences before paying. Regarding the interaction mentioned: no one was lectured, criticized, or forced into a conversation. We value respectful dialogue and factual discussion, especially around food ingredients, and we expect the same courtesy in return. As for staff check-ins, our team is trained to ensure guests are comfortable and satisfied — not to pressure anyone. Feedback is always optional. Finally, we stand by our pricing, quality, and process. We address concerns raised in the moment at the restaurant, where they can actually be resolved. We’re very sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at KOLAPASI Indian Restaurant in Steele Creek, Charlotte, NC. We sincerely apologize that the dish you received was overly salty and that your concern wasn’t addressed properly. We value feedback from all our guests and take it seriously, especially from those familiar with traditional Indian cuisine. We will review our menu combinations and flavor balance to ensure a more authentic and satisfying experience for everyone. We would love the opportunity to make this right. We’re sorry to hear that your visit didn’t meet your expectations. At Kolapasi Indian Canteen, we take pride in serving freshly prepared, slow-cooked meals using premium ingredients with no preservatives, no MSG, and no artificial colors or flavors — a standard that very few restaurants maintain. Our single curry bowl priced at $10.99, double curry bowls at $13.99 and biryani or ghee rice combos at $14.99, which are actually priced lower than many comparable restaurants in Charlotte. Every dish we serve is slow cooked in-house daily and designed for both quality and speed, offering a fast-casual experience without compromising authentic flavor. We understand that some guests may prefer quantity over quality, and we respect that preference — but our focus has always been on real ingredients, honest cooking, and consistent taste with a balance between value, quality, customer experience and portion size. We truly appreciate your feedback and we wish you the best in finding restaurants that align more with your expectations/preference for more quantity than quality. Hi Akshat Kumar. We sincerely apologize for the experience you had today. We at Kolapasi follow a 100% customer satisfaction policy. Therefore, we have processed you a refund for the Uber eats order you made today. We have notified our kitchen staff about this issue and we will review our kitchen camera footage during the time ghee rice was prepared. Therefore, we requesting you to please give us a call and provide your address so that we can remake your order and hand deliver it to you personally along with other samples for you to try. Or, feel free to stop by to pick it up yourself if you wish to do that way. We at Kolapasi use the same proprietary masalas and preparation procedure across all outlets. For all walk-in guests, we follow a model called STO (See - Taste - Order) and encourage all our guests to sample the food before ordering, so that one can buy the exact dish that they like, especially when everyone has unique taste palette. We are the first FAST CASUAL Indian restaurant in Charlotte that allows customers to build their own bowl after sampling our menu items. Therefore, our operation is not like a traditional sit down Indian restaurant. We would also appreciate if
The food quality was poor with clumpy rice and soggy chicken.

We would like to clarify that the price of our double curry chicken bowl is $13.99, not $18 as mentioned, please verify in our website too. Only if a guest chooses premium proteins such as shrimp or goat, there is a small $2.99 upcharge, and even then, the value remains very competitive compared to the average cost of a single entrée elsewhere, especially considering the quality we provide. At Kolapasi Indian Canteen, we follow a unique “See, Taste, and Order” model where every guest can taste dishes before they buy, with no obligation to purchase anything they don’t enjoy. This ensures that you only pay for what you truly like and NO obligation to buy if you don't like anything we offer. All of our curries are slow-cooked fresh daily, which is why the chicken is tender and flavorful. We never use MSG, artificial flavors, or colors, and we are committed to serving only the highest quality ingredients. We understand that some customers may prefer larger buffets for quantity, but our focus will always remain on providing clean, authentic, and fresh meals with real value for the quality offered. We wish you good luck in finding restaurants that suites your preference of quantity over

Hi Ram, We’re sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your visit. At Kolapasi Indian Canteen, we operate on a “See, Taste, and Order” concept — where every guest is welcome to taste the food before purchasing. There is absolutely no obligation to buy if it doesn’t meet your expectations. This ensures complete transparency and gives customers full control over their experience. Our double curry bowl that comes with 2 protein options and rice or parotta (PLUS the benefit of sampling the whole menu) is priced at $13.99 which is still less than the average price of $15 to $18 for a single entre (eg: butter chicken) at any regular Indian restaurant. We take pride in preparing our food fresh daily in small batches without any preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors, or MSG. Our focus is always on quality and customer experience. We believe in serving food that’s clean, flavorful, and good for the body — not mass-produced for volume. Regarding your remark on “paid reviews” — we want to be very clear: all our reviews are 100% organic and come from genuine guests who appreciate what we do. Our loyal customers are the only reason we maintain a high rating, and we do not engage in any kin

Hi Tom, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, though we're a bit surprised by the one-star rating—especially since you mentioned we deserve four stars. At Kolapasi Indian Canteen, we proudly offer a “See, Taste, and Order” model, where guests can sample the food before deciding to purchase. This is specifically to ensure you're satisfied with the taste, spice levels, and quality before committing. It’s a no-pressure, no-obligation experience. It’s disappointing to hear that you didn’t enjoy your meal, but also puzzling since you chose to go ahead with the order after tasting. If something wasn’t right, we would have been happy to help on the spot. We welcome honest feedback, but we also expect fairness—especially when we’re going above and beyond to give guests full control over what they eat. We hope you’ll give us another try, and if you do, our team would love to personally ensure a better experience. – Team Kolapasi Charlotte
The food appearance and preparation quality were unsatisfactory.

Hi Julia, our biryani rice is made of Seeraga Samba rice, short grain rice which may have made you think it's Kasha..We do NOT use basmati rice - long grain rice. We use short grain rice (Seeraga Samba rice) which is rich, healthy and aromatic than basmati. It is rich in Fibre, has very low glycemic index, packs great antioxidants and is more healthier that polished/processed basmati rice. Also this seeraga samba rice is much more expensive than basmati rice. Our biryani rice is one of the fastest selling dishes as it packs intense flavors, slow cooked (traditional dum style) and is made out of multiple spices. It pairs very well with chicken chukka and pallipalayam chicken. Our concept is SEE - TASTE - ORDER. Having said that, our front staff always encourages to sample the food before buying. Based on your comment, we are not sure if you sampled the biryani rice or you just walked away after looking at it. If later is the case, we requesting you to please don't judge a book by its covers. We request you to come back, Taste our food and would appreciate your honest feedback after you tasted our food. We are very sure every customer has options that satisifies their taste pallete.
The lemon rice contained small stones due to poor food quality.

We value every customers feedback and opinion the most. We have not heard from any customer so far today about the stone issue in any rice item served today . It is unfortunate that you have faced this issue. we have a 100% customer satisfaction policy on anything the customer is not happy about . Requesting you to kindly let us know the order details of you have or the date/time or card information, we will gladly process your refund and remake the order for you once again. We give utmost care for the food we serve at Kolapasi, we consistently use only the low carb and nutrition rich seeraga samba rice from India which is of the highest quality and costs way more than basmati rice. We have enforced strict inspection on the raw materials used in the preparation making sure it meets our standards. The rice is usually washed twice before cooking. We value our customers to the extent that we do not add any artificial colors, artificial flavours or MSG in any of our menu items. Having said that, it would have been great if you could have reached out to us at least one time with a picture or evidence before you had posted of what you had , while you went so strong to put us wrong. Hello Mr Reddy Thanks for sharing your testimonial . Every person has a unique taste pallete and we respect that . The good news is that we have a 100% satisfaction policy , so kindly give us a call and share your order details ,so we can refund the order amount back . The whole idea of the See taste order model is to make sure the customer likes the food before they order the food . There’s no compulsion that you have to order just because you tasted the samples . You should only order if you like the food before. Thanks and we wish you the best in finding restaurants that suit your taste Team Kolapasi
